Curt & Brittany, WOW we couldn't have asked for a more perfect day in November. It was such a honor to capture the love these two share with one another. Curt and I both attended Virginia Union University together, and seeing the smile that Brittany puts on his face is one that will last a lifetime. Curt & Brittany wanted to ensure that their shoot captured the beauty of the fall season and the youthful of their love. Therefore, we decided to have our shoot at the Armour House & Gardens. We truly enjoyed having unlimited access to this property and the fall infused setting.
How did you both meet?
Curtis & Brittany: We had been around each other a few times at parties and greek events, but didn’t officially meet until September of 2011. We met at a NAACP event that Curtis was hosting at Virginia Union. I had just started my first year of teaching, and my line sisters thought I needed to get out of the house for a little. I thought Curtis was so handsome, but I’m shy and didn’t approach him. At the end of the evening, my line sisters and his fraternity brothers were all outside talking and catching up. Curtis approached me and asked me for my name….the rest is history.
How did Curt propose?
Brittany:Curtis is so sneaky! I had planned an entire weekend get-away for Curt’s 26th birthday the first weekend in February! That Friday we spent the evening at the National Harbor and on Saturday we went shopping and then to a winery. Much to my chagrin, Curtis insisted that he plan Saturday night’s dinner. He said I had done enough planning and he would take care of it. On our way home from the winery, he took me to the mall and offered to buy me an outfit for the evening. I thought nothing of it. I didn’t want him to buy me ANYTHING for his birthday, but he insisted. We went back to his apartment, changed, and then headed out. In the car he blindfolded me, and said it was because he wanted to make the restaurant location a surprise. We parked and he walked me into the restaurant, that we celebrated our 3 year anniversary the year before. All of our closest friends, line brothers/sisters, and my cousins sat at a huge table and I was stunned. They all said they were there for Curt’s birthday and foolishly, I believed them. He went to park the car, came back to the table and began making a speech thanking everyone for being there for his birthday. Before I knew it, he had pushed his chair away (in my mind he kicked it back like a super hero) got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. WOW! First time I’ve ever been speechless. Then we all went next door and had burgers and fries to celebrate.
We also wanted to ensure we captured the unity that brought them together.
How did joining Greek Organizations effect/strengthen your relationship?
Curtis & Brittany: Although we both joined our greek organizations before we met, greek life did bring us together. Being a part of the Phirst Phamily afforded us the opportunity to be around each other multiple times before actually meeting that night at Union. Our love for our organizations, sorority sisters, and fraternity brothers gives us a mutual understanding and respect for one another. Our involvement with our respective organizations has also brought many wonderful people in our lives, some of which, will be standing next to us when we say I do.
What has been your hardest challenge faced with Wedding Planning?
Curtis & Brittany: Wedding planning has surprisingly been super easy for us. We have been a “one and done” kind of couple through all of this. We picked the first venue we saw, first caterer we tasted, and agreed on the colors immediately. We are enjoying the process and refusing to let small things take the fun out of this journey. The only thing that’s been difficult was narrowing down our guest list. We are having a 200 guest wedding!
